So Last.fm has granted my lowly nonsubscriber self access to their new website design that is currently in beta.
Things I like:
- The Organization in general
- the 'dashboard' is way less annoying. YAY!
- My Library is pretty cool and very user friendly.
- Yay for seeing your "loved tracks"
- Adding descriptions to the track profiles (although this might get used for lyrics and for some reason last.fm used to be very ANTI that)
- Radio's seem awesome and intuitive. PLUS more full songs??!
Things I don't like:
- how comments CONSUME the page.... seriously. I cut these down. It goes on for MILES.
- I'm MEH about the activity feeds... I mean I don't think people need to know all the events I create. Cause I kinda do that all the time.
- I'm also MEH to the fact that you can add an artist to you "library" even if you haven't scrobbled them.
- taste-o-meter is horrifically bland now.
- how web 2.0 or 3.0 they are trying to be.
ps. the strikethroughs just means that it's not ready yet. not that they are not doing them.
Wow...what a beautimous day in the neighborhood. Low 80s and low humidity. Unheard of for this time of year in NC. I'll take more, please.
Got a peek of the new last.fm beta...which is weird cause I was thinking last week or before that it was time for last.fm to do some updating...even if it was just in the eye candy dept. I couldn't figure out a way to grab a snappy of the whole page...so a preview of my page cut in 1/4s.....that dead space in the upper right is a music player.
No picture of this...but there's also a personalized "podcast" consisting of personalized recommendations of the freebie mp3s...which you can subscribe to via iTunes...Not sure if that's new...but I don't remember seeing it before. Some pretty good suggestions from bands already in my library....
I think I like it. Hopefully...it'll move out of beta soon (and then I'll realize all the crap I don't like and will commence whining)
You can give beta.last.fm/username a shot...It didn't work for me when I tried it at first (don't remember when)....but got an email today...so maybe they've opened up the beta a bit?
If you can't get int to see it here's a description about what its all about:
What's this all about?
Three main concepts driving the UI and feature development for this next-generation Last.fm are: play music, share music, and add music. We've focused on making these three things easier for everyone to enjoy, even your mum. You've probably noticed the robust new player at the top of every page—hopefully no more digging around for play buttons and radio stations, and music pages are re-positioned for sharing that music with a friend, or saving it to your library.
What's the library all about? It's a way for you to see all the music in your profile. Dig through every artist, album and track you've ever played, save things there to check out later and categorise your music with tags. It's pretty fun looking at your friends' music now too. I can now see what's in Felix's (not-scrobbling-yet) vinyl collection, or what music my kid sister likes—even though she doesn't have her own computer or iPod. Your library is the home for all your music, whether you scrobble it or add it manually. It's also the basis for all of your personalised recommendations on Last.fm.
There's some other fun bits, like real-time charts, activity feeds and podcasts, but mostly what we've been working on is a fresh start, a new foundation for a Last.fm that can hold all our ideas and yours. If things look a little bare or basic in places, that's why ;-) we need your feedback before we build up the rest of the site and put on finishing touches.
Might start Mad Men tonight. Really wanted the Blu Ray set...but from what I gather it doesn't come in the cool Zippo lighter-like box. Eh....my way was cheaper anyway. ;)
Looking forward to sleeping in with the windows open tonight! (low of 58!!) The kitties will be stoked to get some fresh air too (and that much closer to a bunny rabbit or two)

My listening was much more repetitive than my list would suggest...(I only scrobble the grandpa iPod)...
So glad to have different tunes in my head!
Sharing some Handsome Boy Modeling School...haven't really heard a lot by them....but did some samplin' at the iTunes store and like what I hear...must investigate. A track from them (featuring Cat Powers) below the charts....

Spent some time rating unrated songs, so note the alphabetical nature of most of these. This is in preparation for starting over on my MP3 player, so I can just yank the "interesting" ones I want to get on there. But I still want to have Anna's baby and I was informed she is going to be back in town come early next month, so I'll have one more chance to throw myself at her feet!
